Our Day Trip to Mount Siguniang

Mount Siguniang Itinerary

Due to weather conditions and time constraints, we were only able to visit Mount Siguniang’s Shuangqiao Valley (Chinese: 四姑娘山景区-双桥沟). We visited and admired the stunning views of Mount Siguniang. Keep in mind that each valley requires a separate entrance ticket and deserves at least one full day for exploration in my opinion.

Mount Siguniang is located about 205 km from Chengdu, and our drive took approximately four hours. Thanks to the scenic landscapes and some rest stops along the way, the long journey didn’t feel tiring at all.

Maobilian Ridge

We first arrived at Maobilian Ridge, also known as Nose of the Cat Bridge (猫鼻梁), which is approximately 7 km from Siguniangshan Town. This location is widely regarded as the best vantage point for panoramic views of Mount Siguniang.

After a 20-minute drive from there, we finally reached the entrance to Shuangqiao Valley.

Shuangqiao Valley

Shuangqiao Valley (双桥沟) is the largest of the two valleys and is known for being the easiest and most scenic. The beautiful valley provides a relaxing experience for visitors who want to enjoy the stunning alpine scenery. It features well-developed infrastructure, including a shuttle bus that connects all the scenic spots within the area.

The sightseeing shuttle bus travels approximately 20 kilometers deep into the valley, allowing you to hop on and off at various viewpoints.

The Mount Siguniang sightseeing bus does not make stops during the ascent and goes directly to the top of the mountain. However, it does stop at each scenic spot on the way downhill. Each station has a well-built platform, enabling you to get on and off the bus at your discretion.

Here are the stops along the Shuangqiao Valley Sightseeing route during our visit: Premitive Forest, Potala Peak, Zhugana Lake, Siguna Lake, Ginseng Fruit Flat, and lastly Exit.

  • Premitive Forest: This is the terminal of the sightseeing bus and the first stop of the tour, featuring plank roads, snow-capped mountains, and beautiful forests.
  • Potala Peak: This area is characterized by white pagodas, snow-capped mountains, and scenic roads. Must-see!
  • Zhugana Lake: Hidden gem and takes about 20 minutes from Potala Peak to reach it.
  • Siguna Lake: This lake beautifully reflects the surrounding snow-capped mountains and features dead trees. Visitors can spend about 20 minutes here.
  • Ginseng Fruit Flat: Alpine meadow scenery and possible to see yaks.

Mount Siguniang Must-See Attraction – Potala Peak

Shuangqiao Valley is a magical place filled with primitive forests, beautiful serene lakes, and towering mountains all around. One notable highlight is the large stupa on Potala Peak, which gets its name from its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa. The view from here is spectacular, especially with the snow-capped stupa in the background.

We took the sightseeing bus directly to the highest point of the primitive Forest and officially began our Siguniang itinerary after a short rest. There are six attractions in total, and each one has its own unique characteristics. After exploring the area, we hopped back on the sightseeing bus to visit the next attractions.

Siguna Lake

The viewpoints are also connected by wooden boardwalk trails, making navigation easy. If you choose to walk the entire trail, you’ll find it to be fairly flat and not particularly challenging.

The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. We spent about four hours leisurely exploring the area. That’s the end of our Mount Siguniang itinerary. Afterwards, we returned to the entrance and headed to our hotel nearby Bipenggou in Li country, which was another four-hour drive away.

Stay: Bipenggou Guanshan Wangyue Hotel

Stay Bipenggou Guanshan Wangyue Hotel

We truly enjoyed our stay at a beautiful guesthouse located in Li Country.

We chose to stay at the Bipenggou Guanshan Wangyue Hotel (毕棚沟观山望月酒店), which is conveniently located within a 30-minute drive from Bipenggou. So we could start our itinerary early the next day.

Bipenggou Guanshan Wangyue Hotel Room View

The Bipenggou Guanshan Wangyue Hotel is relatively new and offers excellent service. The staff were very friendly and helpful, treating us more like friends than just customers.

Our room was clean and comfortable, and the food was delicious. The hot springs bath was an added bonus, even though we didn’t use it. Breakfast was also very attentive. Overall, this is an excellent hotel, and highly recommend it.

An itinerary for Mount Siguniang can differ based on travelers’ interests and physical fitness levels. Most visitors spend between one to three days trekking in the area, with a wide range of trekking options available.
