Read my food review of Dian Dou De in Guangzhou. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were huge, and the prices were affordable. It may not be top-notch, but it’s still worth a visit!

During our recent visit to Guangzhou, we explored various Cantonese dim sum restaurants, and one that stood out for its authentic local atmosphere was Dian Dou De (点都德). The restaurant has several branches, so you can easily find the one closest to your location.

Dian Dou De serves authentic Cantonese dim sum, and many locals visit to enjoy their morning tea. They offer a wide range of options, and the food is not only delicious but also made with fresh ingredients. The restaurant’s popularity can be attributed to its all-day menu and generous portion sizes at affordable prices.

Now, let’s take a look at our Dian Dou De food review for an authentic local dim sum experience in Guangzhou.

Dian Dou De (點都德) is a well-established dim sum restaurant in Guangzhou, renowned for its traditional yum cha experience. The restaurant consistently attracts large crowds of diners due to its wide variety of dim sum, which is celebrated for its generous portions, flavorful tastes, and reasonable prices. Our Visit to DianDouDe (Da Cha Lou) Branch

Dian Dou De Interior Design

On our recent trip to Guangzhou, we visited the Dian Dou De for dim sum breakfast. We went to the Dian Dou De – Da Cha Lou (點都德 大茶楼), which is located in the Liwan District, as it was the closest location to our hotel – Orange Hotel Guangzhou XiHua Food.

This Da Cha Lou branch features a spacious three-floor dining area, making it very comfortable and ideal for families to enjoy breakfast together. Upon arrival, we noticed a long queue in front of the restaurant, so we had to wait on the ground floor. Fortunately, they offered complimentary drinks, such as rose tea and chrysanthemum tea, while we waited.

Since it was peak hours and we were a larger group of six, we were asked to sit in a room that charged a higher table fee. We agreed and patiently waited for our turn. When it was finally our turn, the staff escorted us to the third floor.

The Food: Variety of Classic Dim Sum

Dian Dou De - Siu Mai

Dian Dou De offers a wide variety of dim sum, excelling in both classic and creative options. We were impressed by the great selection of dim sum.

Dian Dou De - Prawn Dumpling

We ordered several items that were recommended on Dianping, including the Red Rice Cheong Fun with crispy shrimp (金沙红米肠), shrimp dumplings (蝦餃), Siu Mai (烧麦), steamed chicken feet (蒸凤爪), fried rice noodles, stewed beef tripe (金錢肚), Steamed Pork Ribs Black Bean Sauce Style, boat congee, large youtiao, and salted egg steamed buns.

Dian Dou De - Steamed Chicken Feet

Each dish came in generous portions, larger than what we typically find at other dim sum places. So be careful not to over-order. The large portion sizes were commendable and appreciated by everyone in our group.

Dian Dou De - Red Spring Roll

Be sure to try the Red Rice Cheong Fun with crispy shrimp (金沙红米肠). It’s their signature dish, and it pairs well with the dough fritters, which are very tasty.

Dian Dou De - Fried Noodles

One of Dian Dou De’s noodle signatures is Thrice Fried Noodles (豉油皇炒面). This classic Cantonese dish features yellow egg noodles stir-fried in light soy sauce, balancing a delicate soy flavor with a smoky, charred wok aroma.

Boat Congee

Dian Dou De - Boat Congee

The boat congee is quite good. It features a rich, thick rice congee filled with pork loin, pig’s stomach, spring onions, shredded egg, and crackers. Although it doesn’t have many side ingredients, it is very filling. It’s a great comfort food that warms up your stomach.

Dian Dou De - Youtiao

Look at the size of youtiao from Dian Dou De, it was so huge!

Cantonese-Style Pork Blood Soup

Dian Dou De - Pork Blood Soup

Cantonese-Style Pork Blood Soup (猪红汤) – This classic dim sum dish features smooth pork blood cubes, ginger, and garlic chives in a rich broth. One of my friends enjoyed it so much that they mentioned it was both smooth and tasty. I took a sip, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

Food Taste and Portion

DianDouDe Guangzhou - Huge Portion

We ended up ordering (and eating) more than we intended, but everything was delicious. While the other items were good, they didn’t particularly stand out for me, although my friend enjoyed them.

Personally, I still prefer Tao Tao Ju for its more classy flavors. However, if you love generous portion sizes, Dian Dou De will meet your expectations. The servings are significantly larger compared to most dim sum restaurants we’ve visited in Guangzhou.

The Service

Aside from the food, the staff service was mediocre. There were no smiles or interaction with customers, which is what I expected from such a large restaurant. We ordered using the QR code on the table, and different waiters brought the food to our table, carrying several servings of the same item to distribute to different tables. Some dishes took an unusually long time to arrive, which contributed to a negative service experience.

Besides, since we were seated in a private room, the service felt particularly slow, even though we paid a higher fee for that tea service.

Overall: Our Dian Dou De Food Review

Dian Dou De Food Review

Overall, the dim sums at Dian Dou De were served excellently at very reasonable prices. The food was above average, and the portion sizes were quite large. While the flavors weren’t as impressive compared to Tao Tao Gu, Dian Dou De still offered a worthwhile meal.

In short, it’s regrettable that the service detracted from the overall dining experience. Otherwise, Dian Dou De Guangzhou could have easily received a four-star rating.
