Situated at an elevation of 1600 m in the Swiss Alps, Zermatt is a popular destination in Switzerland. The charming village is the perfect place to catch a glimpse of the iconic Matterhorn and is also a renowned ski village.
When I visited Zermatt, I spent a considerable amount of time trying to decide on the best place to stay. However, in Zermatt, the choice of accommodation matters less than in most places. Switzerland is known for being an expensive country, and Zermatt is even pricier, especially during peak season. Nevertheless, there are plenty of budget-friendly accommodation options as well as exquisite luxury hotels and resorts that are well worth the cost.
Here is my recommended hotels if you are looking for where to stay in Zermatt.
Shall I Stay in Zermatt?
The town of Zermatt is small, and most accommodations are within a 10-minute walk. The majestic Matterhorn is visible from nearly everywhere in the town, offering a captivating backdrop to your stay. Experience the mesmerizing allure of the mountain peak by choosing to stay in Zermatt.
It’s advisable to stay in the Zermatt village, close to the main train station and shopping street. Keep in mind that while the village is not large, but some hotels are located far from the center. It may require an uphill walk, which can be inconvenient, especially if you have children. Some accommodations offer complimentary shuttle services if you’re staying a bit further out. Besides, the village does have a bus service, but it doesn’t cover the entire area and isn’t very frequent.
If you’re still unable to find suitable accommodation in Zermatt, consider staying in Täsch. Täsch is approximately 5 kilometers from Zermatt and can be reached by train in about 12 minutes. Staying in Täsch offers a slightly quieter atmosphere and more budget-friendly prices compared to Zermatt.
