Welcome to Da Nang! Whether you’re here to explore the beach, wander through lively local markets, or visit historic temples, the Central region of Vietnam has something to capture your heart.

Depending on your Central Vietnam itinerary, most travelers will arrive at Da Nang International Airport (DAD) and then head to Da Nang, Hoi An, or Hue. The airport is located 3km from the Da Nang city center, making it convenient for visitors. If you choose to get to Hoi An after landed, the journey from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An takes about an hour by car.

We chose to travel to Hoi An first and then based ourselves in Da Nang before flying back to our home country. There are several ways to reach Hoi An from Da Nang Airport.

Here, we will share our personal experience of traveling from the Da Nang Airport to Hoi An or Da Nang city (and vice versa). We’ve also included some travel tips for each option to help you decide on your mode of transport.

Da Nang Airport to Hoi An / Da Nang City

Da Nang Airport serves both domestic flights and international flights. Many travelers do not stay in Da Nang after landed, but head straight to Hoi An. The two cities are only about 40 km apart, making it a short distance to travel between them.

The best options for getting from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An and Da Nang downtown are private airport pick-up, ride hailing (GRAB), taxi, and shuttle bus.

Private Airport Pick-Up

A private transfer is the easiest way to get from Da Nang Airport to your hotel in Hoi An. It’s best to arrange this a few days before your arrival. Once you get your luggage and exit the arrivals hall, you just need to find your driver.

We booked a private airport car charter to take us from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An. It was convenient and very affordable. We only paid 30,000 VND for a one-way private transfer for the three of us! Yes, it was incredibly affordable.

Airport Transfers – Hassle-free Private Transfer between Da Nang Airport and Hoi An

The operator will remind you about the private car transfer arrangement the day before your trip. When our flight landed, our driver was already waiting for us at the exit, holding a sign with my name on it.

We simply followed the driver to the car and started our journey to Hoi An. There was no waiting involved, and the process was very convenient. It took about 1 hour to reach our hotel in Hoi An – Hoian Central Hotel. In short, I would highly recommend pre-booking an airport car charter, especially if you’re traveling with a group of friends or arriving late at night.

We booked our private transfer from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An through Klook. We found it to be the cheapest and most reliable option.

Ride-Hailing GRAB

Ride-hailing is best for travelers who want a balance between cost and convenience. Rideshare services like Grab are very popular in Vietnam and offer a great way to get from Da Nang Airport to the city. I’ve used Grab frequently in Da Nang and Hoi An, and haven’t experienced any problems.

At Da Nang Airport, there’s a designated Grab pickup station where travelers wait for rideshare vehicles. After you collect your luggage, go out the doors, follow the sign, and head straight crossing the road. The waiting area for Grab is located just outside the arrival hall!

You might be approached by taxi drivers or airport staff. Just let them know you’re heading to the grab pick-up location, and they’ll leave you alone.

In fact, this is how I got to the Da Nang airport from Da Nang city! We also use Grab when getting around in Da Nang.

Grab cars in Da Nang are clean, air-conditioned, and driven by locals who know the city very well. The app shows you the estimated fare upfront. So there are no surprises when you reach your destination. Additionally, you can pay with a foreign credit card through the app, which helps prevent any issues with currency exchange.

Solo travelers can also take advantage of GrabBike services at a lower price. But we only recommend it for short distance and small luggage.

Taxi

Taxis are easy to find right outside the Da Nang Airport arrivals hall. Just follow the signs within the terminal to locate the pick-up points. A ride from the airport to the city center typically costs between 80,000 and 120,000 VND. Always confirm the fare with the driver before getting into the taxi.

Keep in mind that they do not accept card payments, so it’s helpful to have cash on hand, including smaller bills.
